A brief insite into who your coordinators are.......

Mike Sinclair - Pit Doctors.

I'm Mike Sinclair and am the coordinator for the Pit Medical Crew for FMS. I have worked for FMS since 1981 (at first in the Medical Centre and then on the pits). I qualified from Bristol University Medical school in 1976 and was a Registrar on the Bristol rotation and a Senior Registrar in Oxford. I then spent a year and a half at the University of Geneva as a Senior Lecturer in Surgical Intensive Care (1985-86). I then managed to get a Consultant job in Oxford as a Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist (Adults and children )in 1986. I retired in 2006.

My deputy is Dr. David Pigott - trained in Cape Town (but we don't hold that against him!) and then proceeded to train as an SpR in Oxford David is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist in Oxford. He has worked for the Pit Medical Crew for the last 10 years. (the one in the hat!)

Steve Boyle - Dental Team.

I qualified in Liverpool 1979 and have spent most of my career in salaried dental services.   I have provided dental services from mobiles and domiciliary settings for many years and have set up and run OOH services.  Spent many a happy hour dealing with people's dental problems!   I am currently an adviser in medical and dental performance issues.

I have been coming to Glastonbury regularly for nearly twenty years and know my way around the site in sun, rain, dust and mud!

James Denham - Campsite Stewards

The Campsite Stewards team are responsible for running the Festival Medical Services Campsite and more often than not, we are the first FMS representatives that members meet at the Festivals. Our aim is to get everyone onto our sites with a smile and a minimum of fuss.

Dan Parry - Stage Safety Crew.

My role is to coordinate a team who have a great job working right in the front of the stages. Trained in moving and handling and first aid we are responsible for getting injured people extracted from the crowds by the security team, to the medical facilities adjacent to each stage. Our aim is to prevent further injury and is very physically demanding as we work twelve hour shifts.

Checkout our page on the FMS Staff area and if you would like to join us, please contact me for more information.

Dr Debbie Foulds - Doctors.

I am a full time Salaried GP in the West Midlands. I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2001 and completed my GP training on the Dudley GPVTS.  I am particularly interested in substance misuse and musculoskeletal conditions. Festivals were already a favourite pastime of mine before FMS, popping my festival cherry at Reading in 1995.  I started working for FMS in 2005 and quickly worked my way into the good books of Graham (Mayers - the previous co-ordinator) by volunteering to work at every major FMS festival for the next two years.  I took over as Doctors Coordinator at the beginning of 2010 so bear with me - there's a lot for me to get to grips with!

Working your way into my good books is a simple matter. Volunteer for festivals other than Glastonbury (which are always much harder to recruit for.) Don't make me have to chase things up with you. And be reliable. Easy!

Jill Canney -Physiotherapist

Jill is the Physiotherapy Co-ordinator. Jill's background is in Orthopaedic Medicine and general out-patients and more recently in the Community Rehabilitation Service for Somerset Community Health. She has worked in remote communities setting up physio services for surgeries and hospitals in Canada and also in South Africa with VSO. Physiotherapy has been a part of FMS since 1995 having started that year with 2 physios and a treatment couch working out of the back of Jill's van. Now the 13 strong team with a diversity of expertise and skills, works closely with the rest of the FMS health professionals, especially the Podiatrists, in the general medical tent.

2009 General membership news:

Our training day at Honiton Hospital last May 09 was a big success. Andrew Higgins, an A&E Physio from Plymouth, spoke to us in the morning, sharing his experience on assessment of acute injuries. The afternoon was spent familiarising ourselves with the material for splint making and some taping practice.

Claire Jones & Helen Rawcliffe - Radiology Team

We both work at Cheltenham General Hospital in Gloucestershire. We have both worked around the country and internationally and have more than 30 years experience between us.

Claire trained in Canterbury and has a husband and four children.  Helen trained in Sheffield and is much too sensible to allow that to happen. We organise a small team of highly talented and motivated radiographers to cover Glastonbury Festival, sorting out all the paperwork and providing an efficient service.

Steve Bowler - Couriers

I have been a courier for the medical team at Glastonbury since the early 1980's. I have no medical training whatsoever but have a physical constitution like a British Leyland Friday afternoon beige Austin Allegro. The small courier team (4 people only) ferry various items on and off the festival site at the request of the medical staff - such as food and drink (for the medical workers), hardware items, stationery, medical and office equipment etc. Couriers need to have their own car which they don't mind taking on and off site, have a good knowledge of the country lanes around the area (getting around can be difficult at times), know where the local hospitals and doctor's surgeries are and have a good knowledge of the local shops in Wells, Shepton Mallet and Frome.

Rachel Jones - Podiatry

I have been a member of FMS since 2000 and have been the Podiatry Coordinator for the past 3 years. The podiatry team has a skill mix of wound care and musculoskeletal specialists and often work closely with the Physiotherapy team at festivals. I graduated in 1998, and work as a Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist in Liverpool.

Kerri Smith - Communications

I have been a member of FMS since 1998 and over the years I have worked at several of the festivals for which FMS provide cover. These being: Glastonbury, Reading and several others including Homelands and the Global Gathering.  I started working within Comms as a call handler then moving onto despatching the ambulances and first aid units to emergencies around the festival site. Towards the end of 2009 I was given the opportunity to take over the role as Co-ordinator for the Communications department

My professional role away from FMS is very much similar, working for a police force within a non-emergency call centre and as a special constable. I deal with very different situations yet all requiring the same professionalism, understanding and compassion. There are currently no deputies within this department, although a team structure is currently being reviewed.
